So, I’m on a blogging break, but I can’t help but say I told you so!

On September 28, 2008, Black Thought wrote, and I quote (myself):

Ever noticed all you ever heard was Palin saying “Bristol and the young man she will marry.” You never heard the “young man” say he was going to get married.

He doesn’t want to, and he won’t if McCain-Palin loses.

If he did, he would have a while ago.

Of course, he might just do it if they win. The White House is a lot more fun than Alaska.

Powell on Palin:

Gov. Palin, to some extent, pushed the party more to the right, and I think she had something of a polarizing effect when she talked about how small town values are good. Well, most of us don’t live in small towns. And I was raised in the South Bronx, and there’s nothing wrong with my value system from the South Bronx.

And when they came to Virginia and said the southern part of Virginia is good and the northern part of Virginia is bad. The only problem with that is there are more votes in the northern part of Virginia than there are in the southern part of Virginia, so that doesn’t work. (link)

If I can make myself forget about the Iraq war for a moment, you gotta like this guy.

Like, you even have to find and count all the votes when you lose them. Or I guess, that’s just too hard.

A brilliant analysis by Timothy Egan. In short, it notes the hell smart people, especially writers, go through when somebody as incoherent as Sarah Palin and Joe the Plumber rise to stardom.

Here’s Palin’s response, after Matt Lauer asked her when she knew the election was lost:

“I had great faith that, you know, perhaps when that voter entered that voting booth and closed that curtain that what would kick in for them was, perhaps, a bold step that would have to be taken in casting a vote for us, but having to put a lot of faith in that commitment we tried to articulate that we were the true change agent that would progress this nation.”

I have no idea what she said in that thicket of words.

Neither did I, and now I know that I am not alone.

Second best takeaway:

Joe, a k a Samuel J. Wurzelbacher, was no good as a citizen, having failed to pay his full share of taxes, no good as a plumber, not being fully credentialed, and not even any good as a faux American icon. Who could forget poor John McCain at his most befuddled, calling out for his working-class surrogate on a day when Joe stiffed him.

Readers know my feelings about Joe the Plumber. Egan sums it up artfully, to say the least.

We all hate writing them, but mine are heartfelt. Here are mine for an Obama presidency.

First and foremost thank you George W. Bush.  Without you things could not have gotten so horrible that a mixed race man with a dark-skinned wife could become President.

Thank you Hillary Clinton for beginning to run a racially tinged campaign that awakened the black vote to the fact that Bill Clinton was not really the first black President (or if he was he was a self-hating black President). Had you not done so you would have split the black vote with Obama, and might have been President now.

Thank you Bill Clinton for being crazy, and reminding us that despite your many talents, you have some serious ego issues that will affect you to the point that you attempt to play into black people’s doubts and fears.  Also thank you for reminding us that you’re not really black, and that even if you were, you still need to earn our vote.  Extra points for calling Obama’s campaign a fairy tale.

Thank you Jesse Jackson for making such an ass of yourself that you furthered the narrative of a new racial construct and helped make Obama’s campaign possible.

Thank you Jeremiah Wright for being so juvenile, petty, and pathetic, that you drove Obama so far as to completely cut-off ties with you.  This complete break dulled attacks of association relying on your past relationship. Thanks my man.  Oh yeah, and extra points for forcing my man Obama to give one amazing speech on race – which also helped him win the presidency.

Thank you to those who ran campaigns across the nation based on the politics of fear.  Your error in believing that fear triumphs over hope allowed as to teach you otherwise, and in doing so win a major landslide victory that will help Obama’s future agenda.

And I almost forgot, thank you Sarah Palin, for tempting John McCain to pick you, and then sucking so abslutely totally and utterly.

And my biggest thank you to John McCain for 1) picking Sarah Palin and 2) discarding his beliefs and morals to run on an extreme right platform that was ten times less effective than his 2000 campaign approach would have been.

There are so many people to sarcastically thank. I’ll have a list of genuine thank yous later on.

Amazing.

She is a top McCain adviser under STEVE SCHMIDT who has been seconded to SARAH PALIN. On the TV, MSNBC’s DAVID SHUSTER is asking ANNE KORNBLUT about rumors that PALIN has gone AWOL after McCain advisers anonymously labeled her a rogue “diva” and a “whack job.”

Now, McCain camp says she’s a whack job who it’s fun to disagree with, even though, according to them, she has no idea what she’s talking about about anything.

McCain is just totally sick of Palin. As am I.
